Target Audience
When trying to think about who my target audience could be, I thought about different strategies I could take, I decided to create a questionnaire to see what people would say and this helped me find my target audience. I also created a Poster within my group which is shown below and gives a clear image of what we wanted our target audience to be.

So below is the questions that I included on my questionnaire to see what my answers could be:

Below are the results that I gathered from my Questionnaire:

Response 1:

Response 2:

Response 3:

Response 4:

Overall - From Looking at the data that I collected through my questionnaire we can see that I need to be aiming more at 15 - 18 because many of my responses stated that they are the ages that Paranormal Films are more suitable for. This was because they believed that after this age they should understand that horror is not real and it could affect the younger emotionally. However, when reading these responses there was a shock to me this was because most of the people who answered didn't really like horror or don't watch Paranormal horror a lot. So using these it was hard for me to think about who my target audience was going to be so I have decided and as a group have decided that our Target Audience will be based around from 15 to 18 - 21 or maybe older and over because the people who answered my questionnaire thought those ages were appropriate for Paranormal and themselves were aged 15 and over so we shall not be basing our Target Audience under the age of 15.
Below is Images to the Target Audience Poster that we Created as a Group so we could define our Target Audience:

Synopsis Planning

Iconography

Iconography is the visual images and symbols used in a work of art or the study or interpretation of these:
  • Lighting
  • The screaming Victim
  • Characters
  • Symbols of Death
  • Props
  • Binary Oppositions
  • Colours

When looking at this we can see that this is going to be used in films because it shows the genre and interpretation of the different genres based around symbols and works of art. So these are going to be using this because it then enables them to connote the film to different connotations where used. This would then be giving more ideas of this towards the audience and creating thoughts about what the film genre is about and why are they used. It can also be used to help with the understanding of why colours have been used and what they are showing towards what they are showing, with the sense of certain props and items and character that are being used. The reason why they use these in films is because it create effect for the arts that they use towards the audience making it more understanding for them and creating the effect of why they are using certain things demonstrating the genre of their films.

When using iconography in supernatural horrors they are used when using props like for example when looking at the film of the woman in Black when the candle prop is being light in the dark room and nothing is happening and mystery is happening we are then able to know that something bad is going to happen through this and this is being shown through iconography.

When looking at this we can see that iconography is used as effective because it is enabling us as the audience to be able to make interpretations through symbols and work of these related to the films. This makes it much more out of the box when using these as this is because instead of always using trailer and films and quotes using symbols it creates that effect and people as the audience are then able to make interpretations of what will happen. By doing this it is creating the effect because of how it is more perspective for the audience using different measures to show these different things shown in the different aspects of iconography with the use of colour and how it can connote the aspects of the film so for example we can interpret that when seeing Gorey horrors we know that the colours of red and black would be more expected .

Below is an analysis of a poster in Sub genre using Iconography:

Our Planned Horror Location

Below is a selection of Images where we have planned for our horror location to take place which is Located in Tydd St Giles

Firstly the Graveyard/Church
As we can see below we have decided to base our Horror opening around this area of Tydd St Giles which this is the church and graveyard based there. The reason why we have decided to locate the opening here is because the graveyard is where the girl (Ghost girl) is going to visit her mum, however nobody knows that the girl is a ghost however when she is going towards the grave flashbacks will be happening and this would be where she is running towards. The reason why we have decided to use the church is because it is know as a place of safety and believe and this is what the little girl needs however the audience wont know that but it kind of connotes the idea of it.

The Location of our chosen tree:
The reason why we have decided to base our location of our strange male near a large tree is becasue it needs to be in the distance of the where the little girl so the tree will be a tree located within the same graveyard. Our male is going to be seen as a powerful character however, unknown to reality, to show this we needed to find a tree that was tall and quite large so it shows that this tree is going to be the biggest powerful one of the trees and this would the help us link it in with our powerful, strange, unknown male character.

The Location for our Flashbacks:
Down below is an image showing demonstrating where we would like our flashbacks to occur as she is running towards the grave. We thought about doing this down a dark, overgrown kind of area this was because the flashbacks are going to be quite dull and dark memories and because they are flashbacks of the past finding somewhere where it is dark and overgrown or empty it shows the idea of the past and that is what the flashbacks are going to be based around so this is connoting this idea of past and the darkness, creating the effect of the past.

WWW -

You have some fantastic posts that cover a brilliant amount of detail. You analyse in a very succinct and yet detailed way with some very sophisticated ideas as well. You have organised your posts well and have very detailed research into the many aspects of your genre and options for your task. Your analysis of colour is superb throughout your blog.

Try to use a larger range of ICT to present on your blogs, consider the use of audio or video clips of yourself explaining some of the key ideas.
Consider as many multiple meanings in regards to the type of clothing that characters wear. What could it show about them and why is it used?
Think in more depth about the type of text that is used and the connotations it creates for the reader.

Costume Planning - The Male

The Male's costume we have decided to keep it based around the same idea of the business dressed strange male:

We have decided to look at the same idea as we had before in the research of our characters costumes. We mostly wanted our male character to be strange and mysterious towards the audience, however only showing his clothing and no space but we need to make sure that he is going to be linked in with the little girl because of how we him as a mystery character that only the little girl knows who this is creating that guessing game aspect for the audience. With the conflict of the little girl being based around the innocent olden era clothing and the business an being the strange powerful business man with showing he has something to do with the little girl however we know he fades, as we know that he is going to be this strange character who is lurking around this little girl we want him to be questioned to the audience is he a danger to this little girl and why?

Costume Analysis - ThGirl

Below is a few images of an idea that our little girls can be represented like in our Horror opening:

The costumes used in the film "Mamma" for this young girls are sort of the idea we would like to use. As we have the idea of making our girl seem innocent and no danger, however she will be in danger.
As we can see in these picture they have dressed the girls mostly in pyjamas, which representing them in this costume is kind of giving them a a sign of innocence and that they are children getting ready for bed, which sleeping is relaxing and silent, so they have been shown in an innocent kind of aspect. With the use of looking at the trousers that she has been shown in, they are showing flowers, however this is also showing the sign of being peaceful and beautiful, with the aspects of still showing the free zone danger of the child. So however we know that we want our little girl to be an innocent character we also want her to be shown that she is in danger, however not being the danger herself.

As we look at this other research image we can see the girl dressed all in white, which is another idea that we want to go with. By representing a child in a white dress it is showing that she is alone, and that she could be that lost innocent soul, yet again focusing on the idea of being an innocent character. By showing her in an old fashionable dress, our opening will be based around flashbacks, we can see that it is giving the idea of being a flash back costume because of how it is being back in the past by placing her in an old fashionable white dress.

Looking at more similar characters from other films based around our female character:

Costume Analysis - The Male

The Costume Analysis for the strange male figure:
We have decided to go for this costume for the strange male figure within the background, this is because dressing the male in a business suit it shows that he has power and by giving him a bold large red tie we can see that the colour red we can represent this with the idea of being danger and the sign of blood and because he is a strange figure, we want him to have blood marks and dirt shown on him to give him that affect of being like a strange mysterious business man who has something to do with our character of the little girl.

Costume Planning - The Girl
Below is a final idea aspect of how we would like to actually plan our little girl's costume around:
The reason why we have decided to go with a dress around this sort of idea is because of how we wanted our character to look like an innocent little girl however she is going to be in her danger herself.
This is because we still wanted to the idea of people knowing that our opening is being based around being in the olden days because looking at flashbacks it is all based around the idea of the past and using a costume that shows olden era clothing it being about the flashback well demonstrating the idea of the past as well as focusing around the idea of being an innocent confused, lost girl.

Film Classification - BBFC
The BBFC stands for the "British Board of Film Classification" This company is where they decide what age range classification is suitable for each film. They look at age ranges like U, PG, 12A, 12, 15, 18. This company is to decide what film is suitable for the correct age range, so this company tries to make sure that correct items like violence, discrimination or any other themes are suitable for the correct film for the correct age range to watch the film. By doing this they are editing or directing the company into the direct way for the suitable scenes in the film.

What do the different Age ranges mean?

U = This means that the film is suitable for all ages.
PG = This film is then all suitable for all ages, however it comes to parent's judgement for them to watch it.
12 = This film is always going to be suitable for people ages from 12 and over
12A = This is a cinema release which is where it is suitable for ages 12 and over however with a parent present.
15 = This is a film that is only suitable for people of aged 15 and over.
18 = This film is only suitable for people ages 18 and over.
18R = This is where you have to be fully 18 and over as it is fully restricted for the younger people of 18.

The reason why this film have been given these age range is because certain people can only watch films that are correct for their age range. This is decided by the BBFC and they have been given this change because of what is happening within the film.

Below are some examples of Horror films classified by the BBFC and why they have been given these ages:
The Woman in Black
The Woman in Black was given an age rating of a classification of 12 by the BBFC. This was because it included very strong horror and physiological threat

Paranormal Activity:
Paranormal Activity has been rates a 15. This is because this film contains strong language and threat. So therefore the BBFC would have rated this a 15 because of what it includes and because of the strong amount of language this would be suitable for the 15 and over. This is because as well of the supernatural events that it includes within the film.

Insidious:
Insidious film (2011) as also been rated a 15. This has been rated by the BBFC, this is because it contains strong horror and menace. This has been given this because strong horror would not be suitable for under 15's so this has been given at least the earliest of a 15 to still keep a wide selection of audiences.

Saw:
The film saw has been rated an 18 aged film by the BBFC. This is because it contains strong bloody violence and language. Therefore, because of this it has been rated an 18 because bloody violence and language would not be allowed with the under ages.
